My Story

My grandfather was a carpenter all his life, well, at least all of it that I can remember. He built everything out of wood, including his tool box and most of his tools. If our house needed a deck, he built it. If we needed a sunroom, he built it. If we needed an organized storage system, you get the point, he built it. I would tag along with him any time he was in town doing work for my parents. We built decks, doors, tables, cabinets, you name it. I learned so much about woods species, grain patterns, joints, glues, fasteners, and tools from this man. I retained all this knowledge, yet I never really applied it to my life or did anything with it.

I had moved away from the city, bought a house on 420 West in Greensburg, IN, and 420 West Woodworks was born.

I settled in and spent a great deal of time in the garage/barn turning it into an efficient woodshop and started tinkering around with different tools and woods. I found myself attracted to the hardwoods (Maple, Cherry, Walnut, Cedar, etc). So I searched for a hardwood dealer and found John Miller in Milroy, IN (pictured below) not 15 minutes from my place. I then made my first cutting board in July of 2022. Someone bought it. So I made another. It sold. I then started checking out the many ways to make cutting and charcuterie boards. It became an obsession and here we are present day.
